St. Alban's Christian Education
Christian Education is
available in many forms for all ages. Sunday School is offered
for all ages at 9:30 a.m. from September - May.
Children's Activities
A traditional Sunday School is offered for
about ages 8 and up. A nursery is provided for children up to
the age of about 2 for the Sunday School hour and 10:30 service.
Godly Play is offered for children from about the
age of 2 to around 8. An
intermediate version of Godly Play is offered for ages
7-10. Both sessions begin at 9:30 with lesson and work time and continues until the
children enter the sanctuary at the beginning of the Eucharistic
Prayer.
For those arriving at 10:30, the story is re-taught and work
time is offered. A
worship component for all is also added after 10:30. You
may walk your child to the classroom (beside the nursery) when you
arrive.
For those children who are ready to participate
in the full service, but need some enrichment during the sermon,
activity sheets are available which follow the lessons for the week.
Activity/coloring sheets are also available for
younger children who need something to occupy them.
Youth Activities
Traditional Sunday School is
offered through grade 12. The elementary class uses the "All
Things New" curriculum published by Morehouse. It is an Episcopal
curriculum offering a rich mix of age-appropriate activities centered
on scripture and Episcopal "basics". Through the use of A
Children's Book of Common Prayer, children learn more than a dozen of
the most familiar prayers of the liturgy.
Both the middle and high
school classes use the Episcopal Curriculum for Youth, which
challenges young people to test their values in the context of their
Christian faith. The younger youth (middle and junior high) segment
makes biblical characters come to like as real people. It also
includes a "basics" section, which covers the foundations of
the Anglican tradition. The older youth (senior high) segment helps
young people explore the issues, values and faith that will become
life-long spiritual resources.
Adult Activities
Adult Sunday School is
available between the services at 9:30 a.m. A bible study class
covers the lessons used that day in the liturgy. It gives
adults a deeper knowledge of the lessons for the day and further
connects them with the sermon. A "doughnut club" group meets
during the Sunday school hour to discuss current events and their
relationship to Christian teachings.
Education for Ministry class
meets most Sunday evenings. This is a four-year program through the
University of the South (Sewanee).
